Raw Mango relish or chutney- CHHCHHA (Himachal Pardesh)

Who does not  like the tangy, spicy, sweet and sour relish made by raw mangoes. The flavors of fresh mint, cilantro, onion, and green chilies  with a dash of black salt minced together make your taste buds dances with joy. In Himachal it is called CHHH….CHHAAA (sounds like a tongue twister:-)

  • Medium size raw mango
  • 1 cup packed, washed, and chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 3-4 green chilies chopped
  • Black salt as per taste
  • Jaggery or Sweetener ( My mango was semi unripe so i didn’t add any sweetener)
  • Mortar and pestle (Optional)
  • Charcoal for smoking (Optional)

Blend everything together.

The traditional method requires mortar and pestle. I also make in that only. The  stone grinding oozes out awesome juices from all the ingredients.
If you don’t have stone grinder use a blender. Don’t make a paste like consistency. Keep it little chunky. You can add the smoky flavor as explained in precious recipes.
