Onion Balsamic Herbed Flowers

Phobia of onions? If you don’t like onions I am sure with this recipe you will start loving them.
There are many vegetables and fruits you love now that you hated as a kid. But how many foods do you still avoid just because you think you don’t like them? The oven baked recipe is simple and easy to prepare. You just need onions, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, herbs of your choice, and optional salt and pepper. It comes out of the oven loaded with flavors, and makes a nice colorful decorations to any dish it’s served with.

It’s made by simply slicing an onion into eighths, without cutting all the way through the onion so that it stays intact on the bottom. The baking of such onions makes the petals fall down creating a beautiful flower.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 2-3 Red Onions
  • Olive
    Oil
  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Salt
  • Fresh Herbs

The roasting gives the onions a really nice flavor, too!

INSTRUCTIONS:
    1. Peel the onion and slice off the bottom root part so that it can be set down flat without rolling around. Carefully cut down the center and do not to cut all the way through, we want all the pieces stay together.
    2. Cut red onions into eighths and drizzle a dressing made by mixing balsamic vinegar oil, salt,and herbs of your choice.

I used fresh peppermint and Rosemary… YES fresh from my GARDEN!!!

    1. Place onions in a baking dish.
    2. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes at 400 Degrees. Remove aluminum foil and bake for additional 10 minutes, until the onions have opened and are nearly soft.

 

Serve as an appetizer.
