Anyone of you are worried about your babies/toddlers not gaining weight? Any recent appointment with your baby’s pediatrician saying -baby is not gaining weight as per the growth chart? Many of us face this issue when our babies comes below the average percentile.

I also faced this with both of my kids. Also, when they are less than a year we can’t introduce nuts, eggs without checking nut allergies.  So my daughter’s hemoglobin count and weight came below the normal average when she was 6 months. Doctors were concerned and put her on some iron medication. In the meantime, I gave her this powder and the count and weight came fine in next checkup (after 3 months). I introduced this powder in most of the foods when I started solids for her.  I fed her – oats, khichdi, sweet potatoes, fruits and veggies purees. Initially she didn’t like the taste but now she likes it. As they grow over a year you can mix various high calorie nuts (almonds, cashews, pecans and so on) too.

Apart from being aid in weight gain there are other benefits too:

Here is the recipe and benefits

Ingredients

  • 100 gm of dried dates
  • Blender

Method:

  1. Take dry dates in a plate.
  2. Wash them nicely to remove dirt particles.
  3. Dry and wipe with kitchen towel.
  4. Cut with knife and take out the pit.
  5. Take a pan and heat it
  6. Now pour the chopped dried dates and roast them nicely until they become crisp and dry. Make sure not to over roast and they start to caramelize. This step helps to make grinding easier. I tried without roasting and I couldn’t get the powder.
  7. Blender in a powder.
  8. Don’t expect a very dry powder if you don’t roast them. The powder will be little sticky. Fresh dates won’t do well for this recipe.
  9. Store this in an airtight container in the fridge. I use this for about 1 month.
  10. The powder in the picture has other nuts too as she is more than 2 years now.

Benefits:

  • Fight constipation that is a common complaint among babies
  • Rich iron content increases the hemoglobin count in your little one’s red blood cells, ensuring healthy growth and without anemia.
  • Dates have liver protecting properties, including them in your baby’s diet will help.

Teething Tip: You can give ripe dates without pit to your teething babies for stronger dental development. By chewing dates, the budding teeth and gums receive suitable exercise and can develop stronger and quicker.
